A car hauler's revenue is the sum of the prices for every vehicle on the trailer. Two loads with the same miles can pay very differently depending on what is being hauled and where.
What raises the price per car
- Distance and lane: remote pickups and one-way lanes with little return freight pay more.
- Vehicle condition: non-running vehicles need a winch and extra time.
- Size and weight: pickups, vans and large SUVs take more room and weight.
- Enclosed transport: higher-value vehicles in enclosed trailers command a premium.
- Timing: tight pickup windows and expedited delivery.
What lowers it
- Popular lanes with many trucks competing.
- Flexible pickup dates.
- Dealer and auction freight in volume.
Think in loaded trailer terms
Add up every car on the trip and divide by the total miles, including the miles to the first pickup. That effective rate per mile is what pays the truck. Our car hauler trip planner does the math.
Fill the return trip
The best-paying trips are planned both ways. Booking the return before leaving often matters more than squeezing a few dollars from the outbound cars.
