Frequently asked.
105 straightforward answers on what the firm does, what it does not, and how engagements are priced.
The firm
What does Corvane Ashmoor & Co. do?
We are a consulting and professional services firm. We advise clients on how their operations run, we carry out the work itself (back office, dispatch, research, filings, documents and attorney-directed litigation support), and when a matter requires a licensed professional, we find, verify and introduce one.
Is the firm a law firm? Do you provide legal advice?
No. Ashmoor Casework, our litigation support practice, works at the direction of licensed attorneys. For the public, our work is limited to records, research and documents prepared from information you supply. We never give legal advice or choose legal forms on anyone's behalf.
How are engagements priced?
Every engagement is quoted in writing before work begins: a fixed project fee, hourly, a monthly retainer, or a percentage of gross for carrier dispatch. An initial conversation carries no charge.
What happens when a matter requires a licensed professional?
We say so at the outset. We identify qualified licensed professionals, verify license and insurance, review complaint history, and gather comparable written quotes. You contract with the professional directly, and we coordinate as agreed.
Does the firm broker freight?
No. Our dispatch practice acts for the motor carrier under a written dispatcher-carrier agreement. The carrier signs its own rate confirmations and is paid directly.
Can you manage rental property?
No. Property management for compensation in Florida requires a real estate license. We research property issues, coordinate vetted licensed contractors, and handle lot clearing, upkeep and property inspections.
Are you CPAs?
No. We design bookkeeping systems and organize records so your CPA's work is faster and less costly. Tax advice and attestation remain with your CPA.
Where does the firm operate?
We are headquartered in Miami-Dade County and serve South Florida in person. Trucking, research, documentation and consulting engagements are delivered nationwide.
How is confidential information handled?
Engagement terms are documented in writing, and files are shared only with you and parties you authorize, such as your attorney or CPA. Please withhold confidential details until an engagement is confirmed.
Who owns the systems and records you create?
You do. Files, accounts and systems we build for a client belong to the client, with full handover at any time.
Law Firms & Attorneys
Will you work directly with my clients?
Our litigation support work is performed at the direction of the supervising attorney. We do not give legal advice to anyone.
How do you handle confidential records?
Engagement terms are in writing, records are shared only with counsel and parties counsel authorizes, and medical records are requested with proper authorizations.
Do you sign a confidentiality agreement?
Yes. Engagement terms, including confidentiality and handling of records, are in writing before any file is shared.
Can you handle rush work?
Often. Timelines depend on volume; we confirm what is achievable in writing before starting.
Who supervises the work?
The supervising attorney. Every work product is prepared at counsel's direction and delivered for counsel's review.
Do you check for conflicts before taking a matter?
Yes. Before any work begins we ask for the parties involved and confirm we have no conflict. If we do, we decline the matter.
What formats do you deliver in?
Usually Word and PDF, with bookmarks and Bates citations. Spreadsheets for indexes and logs. We match your firm's templates when you send them.
How fast can you turn around a chronology?
It depends on page count and condition of the records. The written scope gives a firm delivery date before you approve anything.
Can you work inside our case management system?
If you give us access, yes, under your firm's rules. Otherwise we deliver files for your staff to load.
How do you bill attorneys?
Hourly with itemized entries, or a fixed fee per deliverable, agreed in writing before work begins.
Who reviews the work?
The supervising attorney reviews every deliverable. We revise to counsel's instructions.
