Small businesses pay many vendors: contractors, mechanics, shops, freelancers. At year end, some of them need a Form 1099.

For each vendor, keep

  • Name, contact and what they provide.
  • Payment terms.
  • Whether a W-9 is on file, collected before the first payment.
  • Total paid this year.

Year-end

The IRS sets the payment threshold for issuing a 1099, and it was raised for payments starting in 2026. Check the current rules with your tax preparer, and the vendor list will show who to review.

Our vendor list tracks W-9s and yearly totals.
