Asking for referrals and reviews the right way

Happy clients are usually glad to recommend you. They just need to be asked at the right moment, in a way that is easy and honest.

Most small firms grow by word of mouth. Asking well turns satisfied clients into a steady source of new ones.

Ask at the right time

Right after you deliver something the client is pleased with: a filing done early, a load paid fast, a report that answered the question.

Make it easy

  • Be specific: "Do you know another carrier who could use help with paperwork?"
  • Give them a link or a short message they can forward.
  • Thank every referral, whether or not it becomes work.

Keep reviews honest

Ask for genuine reviews in the client's own words, never write them for clients, and do not offer payment in exchange for positive reviews. Platforms and regulators take fake or incentivized reviews seriously.

Professional rules

Some professions limit how referrals and testimonials can be used. When working with attorneys and other licensed professionals, respect their rules.
