An account inventory: knowing every login the business depends on

Email, bank, payroll, load boards, insurance portals and the website all have logins. A list of every account, without the passwords, protects the business if someone is out or leaves.

Small businesses depend on dozens of online accounts. When only one person knows them, a vacation, illness or a departure can stop work.

What to list for each

  • The service and what it is used for.
  • The login email or username, never the password.
  • Whether two-step verification is on, and which phone or app it uses.
  • Who owns it and who has access.
  • The renewal date and cost, if any.

Keep passwords in a password manager

The inventory says where to find each account; the password manager holds the secrets.
